Derwent Valley Mills
Derwent Valley Mills is a World Heritage Site located along the River Derwent in Derbyshire. It was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in December 2001, and contains a fascinating series of historic mill complexes. The mills are the world’s first ‘modern’ factories and this part of the Derwent Valley is acknowledged to be the ‘cradle of the factory system’.
The DerwentWISE Landscape Partnership is a £2.5 million project running over five years with the aim to get people engaged with the landscape and heritage of the lower Derwent Valley.
We were appointed to design and build a website which incorporated both the existing Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site content and also that of the DerwentWISE programme.
Understanding the volume of information was the first task. Once we established the structure, we created an image rich CMS website with many features, including:
• Interactive map
• Slider background images
• Responsive design
• Calendar driven content
• Image gallery
